Our Speakers

Learn from world-leading researchers at the forefront of AI and scientific discovery.

Adam Zsolt Wagner

Research Scientist, Google DeepMind

Dr Adam Zsolt Wagner is a Research Scientist at Google DeepMind and a former Assistant Professor of Pure Mathematics. He works at the intersection of AI and mathematics, with a focus on developing tools such as AlphaEvolve to help mathematicians gain insights, find new constructions and look for counterexamples to their conjectures.

Alexandra Chronopoulou

Research Scientist, Google DeepMind

Alexandra Chronopoulou is a Research Scientist at Google DeepMind on the GenAI team, where she focuses on LLM post-training for Gemini, particularly system instruction following in agentic and non-agentic settings. She earned her PhD in Computer Science (NLP) from the University of Munich, advised by Alex Fraser, specializing in parameter-efficient fine-tuning and the combination of information across various languages and domains to enable positive transfer under resource constraints. Prior to joining Google DeepMind, she completed research internships at the AI2, Amazon, and Google. She holds an undergrad in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens.

Stratis Markou

Research Scientist, Google DeepMind

Stratis Markou is a Research Scientist on the Sustainability effort at Google DeepMind, where he contributes to the development of machine learning models for weather forecasting. He completed his PhD in Machine Learning at the University of Cambridge, where he also holds an MPhil in Machine Learning and a BA in Physics. Stratis's research sits at the intersection of deep probabilistic models and the physical sciences, and is interested in real-world applications for social good.

Lara Roman Castellanos

Research Scientist, Google DeepMind

Lara Roman Castellanos is a physicist working at the intersection of quantum mechanics and artificial intelligence. After studying physics at the Universitat de Barcelona, they completed a master's and PhD in theoretical physics at Imperial College London, focusing on quantum simulations of metallic nanoparticles for solar and catalytic applications. Driven by the potential of AI to solve major scientific challenges, Lara joined DeepMind. Their current research uses machine learning to solve complex quantum physics problems—such as advancing Density Functional Theory (DFT) and predicting the infrared spectra of molecules under varying conditions. Ultimately, their work aims to accelerate the design of new materials and help analyze exoplanet atmospheres to search for extraterrestrial biosignatures.

Ryutaro Tanno

Research Scientist, Google DeepMind

Ryutaro Tanno is a Research Scientist at Google DeepMind working on safe and responsible development and deployment of AI systems for Healthcare. He has led CXR-Flamingo, a human-AI collaboration in radiology and multimodality in Med-Gemini, and served as a co-technical lead for AMIE, a conversational diagnostic AI system. He has 10+ years of experience in AI research and biomedical applications with multiple works published in Nature and Nature Medicine with media coverage from the BBC, The Economist and New Scientist. Previously he has held roles in Microsoft Health Intelligence and several medical AI startups across the globe, including ThinkSono (Founding Engineer), Butterfly Network, and Aillis.
